Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sookies Spice World?

Sookies Spice World is a small-batch spice and pantry brand based in Manhattan.

We are starting with spice blends inspired by Moroccan and Persian cooking, but the vision is bigger than spices alone. Over time, Sookies will grow into a pantry world with herbs, teas, pantry goods, incense, oils, gift boxes, and other items connected to cooking, hosting, and home.

Where are your spices from?

For our first batch, most of our spices are coming from Morocco.

We ordered fresh, hand-ground spices from a women’s cooperative in Morocco. Some of the Iranian spices are imported from Iran and sourced through Canada.

Our goal is to work with ingredients that feel close to their origin, not anonymous bulk spices sitting on a shelf for years.

Are your spices freshly ground?

Yes. Freshness is one of the main reasons Sookies exists.

For our first batch, many of the spices are freshly hand-ground in Morocco by a women’s cooperative. We produce in small batches so the blends stay fragrant and full of flavor.

What makes your blends different from grocery-store spice blends?

Our blends are made in small batches, using carefully sourced spices, with a focus on flavor and balance.

Most grocery-store blends are made for mass production and long shelf life. Sookies blends are made to help you cook food that tastes layered, warm, and alive.

Do your blends contain salt?

No. Our spice blends do not contain salt.

This gives you more control when cooking. You can season your dish the way you like and use the blends for flavor, not saltiness.

Are your spices organic?

Some of our spices are organic and some are not.

If a specific spice or blend is organic, we will mention it clearly on the product page. Our main focus is freshness, quality, sourcing, and flavor.

Are your blends spicy hot?

Not all of them. “Spice” does not always mean heat.

Some blends are warm, earthy, floral, sour, smoky, or aromatic. Each product page will explain the flavor profile and the best ways to use the blend.

How do I use the blends?

Each blend is made to be easy to use in real cooking.

You can use them in traditional Moroccan or Persian dishes, or more casually with chicken, fish, meat, vegetables, rice, potatoes, soups, eggs, beans, sauces, or marinades.

Each product page will include simple guidance and serving ideas.

Do I need to know Moroccan or Persian cooking to use them?

No.

The blends are made to help you cook with these flavors even if you did not grow up with them. Start with a small amount, taste, and add more as needed.

Are your blends vegan?

Most spice blends are naturally vegan, but please check each product page for the full ingredient list.

Are your blends gluten-free?

Spices are generally gluten-free, but please check each product page for the full ingredient list and any notes.

If you have a serious allergy or sensitivity, contact us before ordering.

Do your products contain allergens?

Our blends do not intentionally include common allergens unless clearly listed, but they may be prepared or packed in spaces where allergens are present.

Please read the ingredient list before ordering. If you have a severe allergy, contact us first.

How should I store the spices?

Keep your spices away from heat, sunlight, and moisture.

A closed cabinet or pantry is better than next to the stove. Keep the lid tightly closed and use a dry spoon when scooping.

How long do the spices last?

For best flavor, we recommend using your spices within 6 to 12 months after opening.

They will not suddenly go bad, but ground spices slowly lose aroma and strength over time.

Why are the jars designed with art?

Because packaging is part of the Sookies world.

We want the jars to feel beautiful enough to keep, gift, and leave out in your kitchen. The art connects the spices to culture, memory, and the feeling behind the food.

What is The Sookies Journal?

The Sookies Journal is where we share the stories behind the brand: the attar, sourcing, recipes, spice education, artists, packaging, and the cultures that inspire our blends.

It is part magazine, part cookbook, and part behind-the-scenes archive.

Will you sell more than spice blends?

Yes.

We are starting with spice blends, but Sookies is meant to become a larger pantry brand. More products are coming slowly, including herbs, teas, pantry items, incense, oils, gift boxes, and other pieces connected to cooking, hosting, and home.

When will the first drop launch?

Our first drop will be announced through the website, email list, and Instagram.

Because our batches are small, the email list will receive early access before the public launch.

Why are the drops limited?

We work in small batches to keep the spices fresh and to avoid overproducing.

Limited drops also allow us to introduce new blends and products slowly, with more care.

How do I get early access?

Join the email list on our website.

The email list will receive first access to new drops, restocks, recipes, and Journal updates.
